Obsessive Pet Disorder

Mid-Day has a story on the latest lifestyle neurosis.

My family members sit on a floor mat while the cats lounge on the sofa. The first bite of any dessert is sampled by the cat family, before being passed on to us humans.

This is the first time I’ve actually seen a medical term attached to behavior I’ve seen often in my own house.

I have seen this obsessive pet disorder with my girlfriend. Example/s:
Girlfriend sleeps with four dogs. One around her head. One at her feet that constantly can bite her. The other tow at stomach area and to side. She cannot go to sleep without them. Other symptoms include failure to correct bad behavours like barking biting visitors. The barking is vicious and threatening. Other sistuation revolve around food. Eating breakfast on a couch whilst they jump all over her and lick her face. Not eating until they have been fed. Eating same good meat foods as dogs fed first. Not being locked outside and prepared to turn certain areas in the unit into toilet areas for the dogs!

    That is obssesive pet ownership.

I have taking steps to correct the behavour in my girlfriend - time will tell if she continues to self-heal from this emotional condition with my help.
