KPS Gill in Iraq?

Last week there was a well written guest piece on the Winds of Change Blog titled Who is Iraq’s KPS Gill?

When India was trying to fight separatist Sikh terrorists in Punjab, a Sikh police officer named KPS Gill played a pivotal role in giving the anti-terrorism effort legitimacy among Punjabi Sikhs and among all Indians.

It is probably true to say that only an anti-terrorist effort led by a Sikh could have succeeded in stamping out terrorism in Punjab. If a Hindu had led the fight, India would probably still be fighting separatist insurgents in Punjab.

Making the analogy to Iraq, it seems like the new Iraqi government could use a really good, non-puppet, non-quisling, Arab Iraqi Sunni to be the high-profile leader and figurehead of the anti-terrorist, anti-insurgent movement.

Or to put it more simply: Who can play the role of Iraq’s KPS Gill?

More broadly, who are some examples of really good, high-caliber Arab Iraqi Sunni leaders who are committed to doing what’s best for Iraq (and for the long-term best interests of Arab Iraqi Sunnis), and who will not be viewed by the Arab Iraqi Sunni population as being puppets or quislings? (Emphasis in original)

Today’s Express has a piece online on the same broad theme–KPS Gill can save America in Iraq–that exhorts George Bush to consult KPS Gill. Interesting. We might see less insurgency in Iraq, but women might need to keep their backsides away from Mr. Gill’s slappy hands.

i think the americans were wrong to get into iraq in the first place. hving now got there, just how they manage to clean things up (and save face) is a problem to which i can see no clear feasible solution..

Women backside aside, Iraq’s Hockey scene will be in doldrums if they send for KPS Gill. But I have a feeling people won’t care too much about that.
Yes, send him here. We want lesser bureaucracy in Indian Hockey.

mark tully’s “AMRITSAR: Mrs GANDHI’S LAST BATTLE” talks about how the entire bhindranwale business was started by Mrs G herself.

if you visit the golden temple’s museum, you will find that beant singh, kehar singh and satwant singh. mrs G’s assassins, are lauded as heroes of sikhism.

kps gill moves around till today with heavy security. general vaidya, who masterminded “operation bluestar” was gunned down in poona after his retirement.

i do not approve of state terrorism as a solution to terrorism in general. one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter!

Just wondering if the same antidote is valid to solve the Kashmir issue as well. May be Mr. Gill can give us some advice.

Sikhs r Martial Community. We know how to fight and win. Only just killing terrorists is no solution to terrorism. One can fininsh terrorist by killing terrorist but terrorism will be still prevailing somewhere and will come back again after 20 years. This is the real nature of terrorism.

Punjab Terrorism is coming back. See what Indian govt. can do this time.

to mr. nishan-e-khalsa. please talk sense..dont make uneducated and irrational remarks. if sikhs like you are in punjab to promote terrorism then sikhs like me are in punjab to do whatever it takes to stop it. learn the real meaning of a sikh and then call youreself one.

now, about mr gill, yes, his assistance could prove valuable in iraq.

    Hello everyone
sauvik i agree with you, terrorist for one could be freedom fighter for another. I do not call Sant Bhindranwale a freedom fighter, but a messenger who brought the message of equal rights among sikh youngsters at that time.I have all his lectures recorded and none of his lectures spread a message of terrorism. He was a creation of Indira Gandhi and when it turned around on her, he was labeled a terrorist. He always said,”we dont demand for Khalistan, but if given, we wont make a mistake as we did in 1947 of refusing it.” He demanded for “anand karaj act” for registering sikh weddings rather than Hindu marriage act, because of the difference between rituals and ceremonies. The water problem, the Chandigarh Problem etc…. He did not initially want to kill people and as much as I know he did not kill innocent people. He killed Lala Jagat Narayan because of this behavior towards sikhs. What was the meaning of “Kesh Kanga te Kirpan, bhejo inna nu Pakistan” which means people who have long hair, who keep wooden comb in their hair and who wear sword (Sikhs) should be kicked out of india and should be sent to Pakistan. another slogan of that time “Dukki Tikki Khehn ni Deni, Sir te Pagri Rehn nahi deni which technically means we dont care for any leader from the minority, we just will not let anyone with a turban around (sikhs again!!!!) so how would someone who was a good sikh feel about these kind of things. Yes, after 1984, when rajiv gandhi ordered a massacare of sikhs everywhere in the country (and most of you all know what happened in Delhi, people are still looking for justice there) a lots of unemployed boys started looting etc under the name of fight for religion….many were even hindu unemployed boys who had nothing to do, they would just wear a turban and under the name of sikhism, with some sikh boys, they would create a gang and start killing. that was wrong, but there were some who were still fighting for the rights for sikhs. About KPS GILL handling it….. his orders were to shoot at sight any boy who was in the age of 13-30 at that time…… Yes, definitely after that no one will be left Punjab Police had rights to do whatever where ever….. raping innocent girls, women etc……. so now tell me who was terrorist……. General Sikh population or Punjab Police aka KPS GILL or late SP AJIT SINGH or late Chief Minister Beant Singh……my father was a lawyer in Punjab at that time and our family went through a lots of torture from some of these looters for money etc…. and police was of no help either. Instead of helping us, they would arrest my young uncles, even my father in the charge of helping these people. This issue is very close to my heart and i can go on and on about it……. but Whatever happened…. happened….. cant we leave those things behind and take our country on the way of progression together. Sikhs are trying… trust me….. if others let them do it. Having a Sikh prime minister or muslim president doesnt help until the common public feels the equality. And just to an answer for someone who in this blog said that good KPS Gill was a sikh not hindu otherwise…….. let me tell you…… many people still do not want an equality between sikhs and hindus. A very close person to me was in love with a hindu guy, but the guys parents refused because the girl was a sikh and they brought up the issue of hindu-sikhs….. is that fair????? we are trying to forget that difference and mingle between them, but they dont want us to come close to them….. then what is the purpose of the popular slogan of our country “HINDU-MUSLIM-SIKH-ISAAYI, aapas mein hain bhaai bhaai” I do not think i can explain this issue better than that…… and if someone has any kind of questions you can always reply back on this blog. i will check it very often………
