Vote for us!
Published by MadMan January 10th, 2005 in Web WorldLadies and gentlemen, we are pleased to announce that AnarCapLib has been nominated at the IndiBloggies for Best Topical IndiBlog. This is both a happy and sad moment for me. Happy because I’ve contributed a bit to this site and it’s been nominated. So in a way, I feel as if I have been nominated too. Sad because well, I have been nominated in the same category against Yazad for my chef blog, Shiok Chef’s Notes. So it’s as if I’m fighting against myself. (Unfortunately, it’s not the first time. Both my blogs have been nominated for best design, so it’s an all-out battle between my two avatars. I will now abuse my webmaster priviliges to shout, “Vote for meeee!”)
Please do go and vote for us. The winner gets a grand prize of Rs. 10000/- and a free trip to Las Vegas for two.
(Yeah right. Who are we kidding? The winner gets a big ego boost and little else, but we’ll settle for that. Nick’s FeedDemon software prize sounds nifty too.)
Well, I’ve never really cared too much about these awards, although I have won some stuff in the past.
Please note that we’re pitted against SEA-EAT and there are 10 nominees in all (too many. 5-6 should be ideal).
Well, the more I look at it, the more I see flaws in the way the awards are designed. If I’m inclined, I might just rant on it later.
Yes, the award design is flawed. Don’t look at me. Ask Debashish. He’s the organiser.
And the tsunami site shouldn’t really qualify. It appeared a fortnight ago and it may not be very relevant two months from now. But what the heck…
Madman: Naughty you, too bad to reveal my true identity (FYI all the jurors already knew and nobody cared). I think it’s easier to shoot brickbats now.
Yazad: It is never too late, we can always try and improve on the mechanism. I have repeatedly asked people on the methodology and whatever has been done was based on the responses received. While you complain that nominee count is too much, others are complaining why they were left out; as I said difficult to please everyone. As for prizes, thanks to all the sponsors I think we have a decent lot for all category winners this year, last time we had peanuts. For me the highlight of the event is the Nominee list, my own Bloglines subscription list will grow after the event, this is what I actually strived for, the voting is just a gimmick (for we know technically it can never be fair).
Debashish, I was invited to be a juror. One of the reasons I didn’t accept was the fact that you refused to reveal your identity. I don’t think it’s such a big deal to hide behind anonymity. When it’s open, there’s a lot of credibility as well. (Which may be the reason why you publicised the juror list).
However I do think the idea is good. And instead of ranting, what I will do is suggest changes to make Indibloggies better next time.
