Carry along the formatting
Published by Yazad Jal November 23rd, 2004 in TechnologyI’m looking for a program that can covert basic formatting like bold and italics from MS Word to HTML. I have some stuff written in Word that I’d like to post, but it needs tedious HTML tagging. Is there any way this can be done automatically? I’d prefer free software compatible with Windows.
And no, please don’t ask me to use Word’s inhouse “save as web page” system. It adds tons of HTML garbage. Also, yes I’d love to use Linux / open source etc, but sometime in the future. For the time being I shall stick to Windows.
try OpenOffice .. it is available for windows too, i believe. u can open/edit all MS Office files with it.
Save the doc as a html file. Then open the file in notepad and copy the html.
Ah, damn :)
That second line of yours didn’t come up in the post on Lj and I put the same comment in both places.
Well, the ‘garbage’ is perfectly good html too and won’t affect how your post looks.
I really can’t think of any way of avoiding the extra markup except for editing it out yourself.
http://textism.com/wordcleaner/ might be what you are looking for.
The textism word cleaner is a cool tool! Just used it. Thanks Pleomorphous and welcome to my blog.
Sigmundfloyd, I found the amount of crap code word generates way to painful to manually delete all the time. That’s why this post.
Anya, let me see. Maybe I shall experiment with OpenOffice sometime soon.
Once again, thanks for the help guys!
No time like the present. Switch to linux. :)
Take Renuka’s hint. It’s a Free world Yazad, make the switch :).
Renuka, it’s GNU/Linux and not Linux.
