No Blind Watchmaker in India?
Published by Yazad Jal October 8th, 2004 in Art / LiteratureI scoured through various bookstores to find Richard Dawkins’ The Blind Watchmaker — and could find it nowhere. I was surprised, because it’s a bestseller. It was on the catalogues of most stores, but not in stock. I was told by both Crossword and Strand that it is out of print in India. Strand kindly offered to import it for me. I took a short cut and had a friend visiting London buy it for me. (Thanks SG!)
The point of this ramble? I have one more book on my “to-read” list. As I am on a ramble, here’s more. While at Strand, I saw Lou Dobb’s anti-outsourcing and anti-trade tirade Exporting America: Why Corporate Greed is Shipping Jobs Overseas (Sorry, I refuse to link to the book). On a whim, I asked the cashier at Strand how many copies were sold. The enthusiactic answer was “around two dozen — and the book came in just this week.” Indians are actually buying this book with all its anti-India hysterics? Here is a critical review.
Order the blind watchmaker from Fabmall. They’ll get it for you.
Or borrow it from me.
Buy it from Sify
Or borrow it from me.
Too bloody late. Anyway, mental note made to ask certain friends and co-bloggers before buying books. (or getting other friends to buy them for me)
How could you not find it in Bombay when I read it in Patiala?!
Aadisht, you don’t find books in Bombay. No one reads books here.
you could borrow it from me as well
OK, so do all members of the Cartel have a copy now? Good.
I don’t have a copy. I used a lending library.
