1-3, 1-3, East Bombay
Published by Yazad Jal March 4th, 2004 in Culture and SocietyRam Jethmalani claims that he was a boy scout. (Scroll down to the end of the article). I’m not sure what to make of that, but it brought back memories of my times as a scout. So, I did a few preliminary google searches.
My old scout troop — 13th East Bombay — has it’s own webpage (I’m impressed!), with a nice section on songs. However, the more bawdy versions sung during campfires and outstation trips are missing!
My most enduring memory of scouts is in a bus travelling from Dehradun to Mussoorie with the scouter teaching us to sing “Roll Me Over.” The way back is another memory. We ate too many green apples in Mussoorie and the bus had to stop many a time on long and winding mountain roads for us to go to the back and retch. Actually it wasn’t even a bus — it was a makeshift army truck, with poor suspension!
