Metrosexual
Published by Yazad Jal June 24th, 2003 in Culture and SocietyNiraj wrote abou this new phenomenon of metrosexuality (NYT, requires free registration) and I’m intrigued.
The article focussed only on straight men discovering their female sides. I also know a lot of straight women who display a manly personality. What comes right on top of my mind is Kiran Bedi. She’s definately not gay, but whenever I’ve seen her out of uniform she always wears men’s clothing (shirt & trousers).
Have you also noticed the current trend amongst women to buy men’s cologne?
No I have not noticed the recent trend amongst women to buy men’s cologne. I am not in the habit of stalking women to find out what they buy.
I wouldn’t go and buy mens cologne, but sometimes I sneak into my brothers room and use it. It’s a change from the usual flowery kind of perfumes that we girls have :D :)
Ravi, you don’t need to stalk. Just smell some women around you and you’ll wonder why they smell like men! ;-)
Ok, seriously, this I know from my sis-in-law, my cousins etc. And of course, Khushee who also confirms this.
I tried your advice and smelt some females.. Then I smelt some males to find out whether the smell is different.
My team has revolted and now I am in the doghouse.
That’s the last time I’m taking ideas from you. Next time I want data on women’s darkest secrets, I’ll hire some MBA summer trainees to break into bedrooms of women and take an inventory of their toiletries.
That’s the only way to reveal the hidden revealed preferences of women…
Women buying men’s colonge? Never heard of that before. *grin*
Ravi, Ravi — do these things discretely, and never get too excited. ;-)
Sampada. Hmmm. Now why do I have to lock my colognes whenever you’re around? ::even bigger grin::
Discretely? I don’t do these things continuously…
Or didst thou mean discreetly?
A thousand pardons o great spelling / typo correcter!
Two words come to mind: Phalguni Pathak. ‘Nuff said.
Hey.. we never got such assignments for our summer training!! :-)
Seriously Yazad… not very good advice!! Hope you do not become an Agony Uncle or something!
In my time a group of students did study the consumer behaviour of purchasers of sanitary napkins. I see that standards have declined since then.
Kingsley, Phalguni Pathak is most probably gay.
And gosh. MBA’s can be quite dense. You can detect perfume without digging our nose into someone! As I told Ravi, there are ways to be discrEEt
Yaz, you soo read muh mind.
And oh, the trend towards masculinity in women’s perfumes has been around atleast since ‘99. Remember CK One, the first unisex perfume? Take a non musky male fragrance(preferably citrussy), package it in a drab gray box and call it unisex.
“You can detect perfume without digging our nose into someone!”
Yeah, but it’s more fun that way ;) . And it’s not digging (yuck), it’s burying.
Discretely…..digging your nose…..
Yazad making a lot of fox paws? :-P
I for one have been using CK One for ages. I just like how it smells on me a lot.
Interesting takes on the article. I’m the guy in it and have been taking a gander at the reaction to it . . . thanks for sharing. Karru
